Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience

"Have you ever dreamt of stepping into a painting? To become completely immersed in the work before you, making reality around you fade into the new world created by the artist? This is where you can!"https://www.vangoghexpo.co.uk/

NOTE: please click all the pictures, they're WAY better when enlarged! :)

Before hitting up Van Gogh, we had afternoon tea at the Yorkshire Bar & Grill. I absolutely LOVE the aesthetic of the place and my first thought was: 'we should have a meet here!'

Unfortunately we did not get the 'Yorkshire Afternoon Tea' we had hyped ourselves up for (on the walk there, Claire and I were discussing what Yorkshire elements there might be) and we were told that they no longer did the one illustrated on the Groupon offer and the image should have been changed long ago. While a little disappointing that the tea wasn't as advertised, it was still delicious (I'm still thinking about that big macaron and A grade brownie!) and at £9, it was excellent - would eat again!

York swapped out it's usual colourful brollies for Van Gogh appropriate ones!

Featuring one of my faves - Starry Night!

'Success is sometimes the outcome of a whole string of failures.'

Two VERY different Van Goghs! Since visiting the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, I've been quite surprised by how vastly his style changed.

A classic!

Almond Blossom - another one of my absolute favourites!

This brought me SO much joy! One day I would love to have a feature wall in my house of this painting!

'Nature always begins by resisting the artist, but he who really takes it seriously he will not be put off by that opposition.'

'I know for sure that I have an instinct for color, and that it will come to me more and more, that painting is in the very marrow of my bones.'

My biggest regret of the day was only taking photos on my SLR and not having videoed anything because the music they incorporated with the visuals made the experience so atmospheric and magical!

THIS! I want this as a print please!

Were you even at a Van Gogh experience if there AREN'T sunflowers???

I liked the way visual distortion was used as an indicator of Vincent van Gogh's mental troubles, I also do not know if that was the intention?

'What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything.'

It was the most relaxing, magical experience and we both really enjoyed it. In fact, it was so good that it made up for the fact that we didn't get an actual Yorkshire afternoon tea! You read that here!

Moving on into the next room, this experience certainly kept giving!

DID SOMEONE SAY COLOURING IN???

Ta-da! We both picked Starry Night too!

A gentleman came past and told us we should be banned for making ours so good xD
Thank you kind sir!

And here are our Starry Nights projected onto the wall!
I could not be happier with this experience and if you are in the area, like Van Gogh or just like an arty day out, I would highly recommend this! Normal entry is £13 or £11 if you've a student card!

On a slightly different note though, since being at van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, I CANNOT stop thinking about The Letters of Vincent van Gogh (a.k.a. Van Goat) by Cherry Bomb!

I love both colourways, if you see this for sale (skirt of short JSK) PLEASE hit me up!

So that's that! Beautiful food, beautiful artwork and a beautiful print I wish I caved into buying!
Have you ever been triggered like this before?

  1. Resist the van Goat dress! The installation does look amazing though, sort of like the Team Borderless installation in Tokyo in how everything is moving and sound plays just as important a part as what you see. If it's around for long enough, maybe I'll even manage...
